Debate Topics for Kids & Teens (by Age)
Debate makes kids build a case and defend it, which is where the real thinking happens. Pick a topic, assign one side “For” and one “Against,” and let them argue the side they don’t believe. That’s where the real skill is.
Give each speaker 2 minutes to make their case, then 1 minute to respond. Teach the core move: claim → reason → example. ("Kids should have later bedtimes. Because sleep helps you focus. For example, when I sleep more I do better on tests.")

Coach’s tip for parents
The most valuable exercise is making your child argue the side they disagree with. It forces them to understand both sides, which is what most reliably turns a kid into a strong debater and a clear thinker. Praise the reasoning, not whether they “won.”
