1. The Opening: grab attention (about 20 seconds)
Pick one way to start, then tell them what your speech is about in one sentence.
- A question: “Have you ever wondered…?”
- A surprising fact: “Did you know…?”
- A short story: “Last week, something happened…”
- A bold statement: “I believe…”
2. The Middle: your 3 main points
Give each point a reason and an example. Three is the magic number. Transition with: First… Next… Also… Finally…
- Point 1: because… / for example…
- Point 2: because… / for example…
- Point 3: because… / for example…
3. The Close: end strong (about 20 seconds)
- Remind them of your big idea: “So remember…”
- Call to action: “Next time you…, try…”
- Circle back to your opening (answer the question or finish the story).
Quick checklist before you present
- My opening grabs attention in the first 10 seconds.
- I have exactly 3 main points (not 6!).
- Each point has a reason AND an example.
- My ending repeats my big idea.
- I practiced my first line and last line out loud.
