TalkMaze Inc. ("TalkMaze", "we", "our", "us") operates talkmaze.com and provides online 1-on-1 communication and public speaking coaching for children. We are a Delaware corporation based in New York. This policy explains what personal information we collect from parents/guardians and about their children, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the privacy rights available to you under U.S. federal and state law and under Canadian law. Because our services are for children, we take extra care with children's information; the Children's Privacy section below describes those practices.
Accounts, bookings, payments, and communications are handled by a parent or legal guardian (an "adult account holder"). Our website and marketing are directed to parents/guardians, not to children. Children participate in coaching sessions under the supervision and consent of their parent/guardian and, apart from the coaching sessions themselves, do not use the public website. The one child-facing area of our service, the student portal at /dashboard, does not run advertising or analytics trackers.
From the parent/guardian: first and last name, email address, phone number, time zone, and (for enrolled families) billing information processed by our payment provider. If you apply for financial aid, we also collect the information you provide in that application, which may include your country and city, household size, household income range, and a description of your circumstances.
About the child:the child's first and last name, age or age band, grade (financial-aid applications only), and their communication goals. During coaching we generate progress notes and audio/video recordings and transcripts of sessions (see Session Recordings and AI Processing).
Booking, quiz, and lead information: when you book a trial, take our qualifying quiz, or submit an inquiry, we collect the details you enter along with the marketing source/UTM parameters that brought you to us. If you begin our quiz and enter your email before finishing, we may save your partial responses so we can follow up.
Communications and consent records: your message history with us, and records of the consents you give (for example, SMS opt-in, agreement to our Terms, and any media-release choice), together with the date/time, IP address, and device/browser (user-agent) at the time you gave them, which we keep for compliance.
Technical and usage information: when you browse the site we and our providers may collect your IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, and similar analytics data. Some of this is collected through cookies and similar technologies — see Cookies, Analytics, and Advertising.
We use personal information to:
We use strictly necessary cookies to make the site work (for example, to keep you signed in). These are always on because the site cannot function without them.
With your consent, we also use analytics and advertising technologies that set cookies and share information with third-party platforms:
You can opt outof these advertising technologies at any time — use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link in our footer, the cookie notice shown on your first visit, or the Global Privacy Control signal, which we honor (see Your U.S. State Privacy Rights). They are never loaded on our child-facing student portal, and we do not use them to target children. Sharing information with an advertising platform such as Meta may be considered a "sale" or "share" of personal information under certain U.S. state privacy laws; we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.
You can also manage cookies through your browser settings and control ad personalization in your Google and Meta account settings.
We do not sell your or your child's personal information for money. We share personal information only as described here:
Service providers (processors) that perform functions on our behalf and are permitted to use the data only for those functions:
Advertising platforms — where you have consented, Meta and Google as described in Cookies, Analytics, and Advertising.
Legal and safety — when required by law, to enforce our agreements, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users (including children), TalkMaze, or others.
Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
Coaching sessions may be recorded (audio and video) for quality assurance, coach training, progress tracking, and to generate written summaries for parents and coaches. To produce those summaries and to track skills over time, recordings and their transcripts are processed by trusted providers, including a speech-to-text service (AssemblyAI) and an artificial-intelligence service (Anthropic's Claude), which act as our processors and are contractually restricted to processing the data only to provide these services to us. These summaries also inform internal, per-student notes we keep to personalize coaching. Recordings and transcripts are not used to build advertising profiles and are not sold. Because these recordings are of children, we treat them as sensitive; parents may request access to or deletion of a child's recordings as described below.
TalkMaze serves children between the ages of 5 and 17, and we comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and comparable rules for the personal information we collect about children. Our website is directed to parents/guardians; we do not knowingly allow children to create accounts or submit information to us directly.
What we collect about children and why. With a parent/guardian's involvement, we collect a child's name, age or age band, communication goals, and — during coaching — session recordings, transcripts, and progress notes, all for the purpose of delivering and improving the child's coaching. We do not condition a child's participation on disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary.
Parental consent.A parent or legal guardian sets up and manages the account and must consent before we collect or use a child's personal information, including before any session is recorded or processed by our AI/transcription providers. We obtain that consent from the parent/guardian, who creates and manages the account, agrees to these terms, and completes enrollment on the child's behalf, including the payment transaction that accompanies a paid enrollment.
No behavioral advertising to children. We do not use children's personal information for behavioral or targeted advertising, and we do not run advertising/analytics trackers on our child-facing student portal.
Parental rights. At any time, a parent/guardian may review the personal information we have collected about their child, request that we correct or delete it, and refuse to permit further collection or use of it (understanding that this may mean we can no longer provide the service). To do any of these, contact us at hello@talkmaze.com. If you believe a child has provided us personal information without parental consent, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.
We will only use a child's name, photograph, video, or testimonial in our marketing if a parent/guardian has given a separate, optional media release — it is not part of, or a condition of, enrolling in coaching. If you have granted a media release, you may withdraw it at any time by emailing hello@talkmaze.com, and we will stop future promotional use and remove the material from channels we control on a going-forward basis.
Depending on your state of residence (for example, California under the CCPA/CPRA, and Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws), you may have the right to:
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. Our advertising cookies/technologies may involve a "sale" or "share" of personal information. To opt out, use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link in our website footer, or opt out through the cookie notice shown on your first visit. We also honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal — if your browser sends it, we treat you as opted out automatically. You may also email hello@talkmaze.comwith the subject "Do Not Sell or Share."
Minors. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age without opt-in consent (from the parent/guardian for those under 13, and from the minor for those 13–15).
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@talkmaze.com. We will verify your request (and, for a child's information, your status as the parent/guardian) before acting, and we will not discriminate against you for making a request. You may use an authorized agent where the law permits.
For families in Canada, we handle personal information in accordance with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial laws, including Quebec's Law 25. We collect, use, and disclose personal information only for the purposes described in this policy and with your consent, and you may withdraw consent (including for advertising cookies and marketing messages) at any time, subject to legal or contractual limits. You may request access to, and correction of, the personal information we hold about you or your child by contacting us at hello@talkmaze.com. We will inform affected individuals and the applicable authorities of a privacy breach where required by law.
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, then delete or de-identify it. In general:
You may request deletion of your or your child's data at any time by emailing hello@talkmaze.com.
We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, consistent with our obligations (including the New York SHIELD Act). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to limit access to those who need it to provide our services.
If we experience a breach of security affecting personal information, we will notify affected individuals and applicable regulators as, and within the timeframes, required by the laws that apply to you (including U.S. state breach-notification laws, the New York SHIELD Act, and PIPEDA / Quebec Law 25).
TalkMaze is based in the United States, and the providers we use may process information in the United States and other countries. If you are in Canada, your and your child's information will be processed in the United States and is subject to U.S. law; we use contractual and other protections with our providers as required.
