Impromptu speaking: think fast, speak clearly, stay calm

Who it's for

For kids ages 7 to 17 who go blank when put on the spot, and for confident kids who ramble and need structure under pressure.

Why families choose TalkMaze

What makes it work

A 30-second thinking routine

We teach a repeatable way to organize a thought fast (answer, two reasons, a wrap-up), so “I don’t know” becomes a clear reply.

The pause that sounds smart

A one-second silence beats an “um” every time. We rehearse the swap until it becomes a habit.

Reps with real prompts

Coaches run rapid-fire prompts every session, so your child collects dozens of at-bats and stops fearing the unexpected question.

TalkMaze is an online communication academy offering 1-on-1 public speaking and debate coaching for kids ages 5 to 17.

Founder Ghalia Aamer is a national debate competitor, TEDx speaker, and Princess Diana Award recipient, and every coach is trained on the method she built.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Why is impromptu speaking so hard for kids?

Because it asks them to organize a thought and deliver it at the same time, with no script. It is a separate skill from a prepared speech, and like any skill, it gets easier with structured reps, which is exactly what we drill.

How do you stop a child from saying “um” constantly?

Awareness first, then pauses. Once kids can hear their fillers, they naturally replace them with a confident pause. Coaches catch fillers in real time so the habit changes fast.

Will this help with class discussions and interviews?

Yes. Those are impromptu speaking. The same routine that answers a surprise prompt in practice answers a teacher’s question or an interviewer’s curveball.
