Celebrating Our One Year Anniversary

I struggled to speak up when I was younger. I was afraid of talking to people one on one let alone in front of a large group. Joining the debate team in seventh grade changed my life. But then I realized that 73% of people are afraid of public speaking and less than 15% of middle schools offer speech and debate programs.I knew something had to change. In 2020, I launched TalkMaze to provide public speaking and debate training across the world using a digital platform. We’re on a mission to make effective communication skills a priority worldwide. We received over 220 applications from coaches of over 30 countries to join our team. We brought on the best of the best to build a team of 20 coaches from around the globe. Our incredible team of staff and coaches worked together to build 300+ pages of extensive curriculum for public speaking and debate that allows our coaches to cater to all levels. In less than a year we’ve created and published 5 online courses, directly impacted over 135 students, and delivered over 145 hours of coaching. On top of that, our incredible partnerships have helped us take TalkMaze above and beyond. We were selected for the League of Innovators Labs Incubator program to take the business to the next level. Our partnership continues with us leading training sessions for LOI’s Speakers’ Bureau and being an active alumni member. After placing second out of 64 teams at the Online Thinkathon and presenting a policy proposal to implement public speaking programming in schools, we partnered with the organization to deliver training for the next group of contestants. In spring of 2021, our partnership with the Alibid Society involved hosting a speech tournament for high school students across Alberta. This was another incredible opportunity for us to directly impact students. Finally, from placing first and audience favorite at the Young Entrepreneurs’ Pitch Conference to being a finalist at the SMU March Madness Competition to being selected as the top 12 student entrepreneurs at the Enactus competition, the recognition and networking opportunities we’ve gained from these competitions have been invaluable. This is only the beginning. We’re on a mission to reach students around the globe with our programming to minimize the gap and develop confident speakers.
